Are you thinking of hiring a self-drive van in Spain?
We don't actually hire self drive hire vans!
Need Help Moving Your Things?
We offer a stress-free Man with a Van service! 😊
Hiring a van in Spain can be more expensive—and more frustrating—than you might expect. Many rental companies supply older, poorly maintained vehicles, and it’s not unusual to find the size you booked isn’t available when you turn up.
Even worse, most van hire deals only include 100–200 km per day, with extra mileage charged at €0.40/km or more. If you're travelling long distance, that adds up very quickly.
With our Man with a Van service, you get:
- A reliable, well-maintained vehicle
- Transparent, fair pricing
- An experienced driver who knows the route, the local area along with local regulations
- No stress. No hidden fees. Just an easy, professional way to get your belongings home.

Considering a One-Way Van Hire from Spain to the UK?
If you're thinking about hiring a van for a one-way trip from Spain to the UK, it's worth weighing up whether it’s actually the best option. While doing it yourself can seem cost-effective at first glance, there are a few important things to keep in mind:
Weight Restrictions: Most hire vans have strict weight limits. In many cases, you can realistically only use about half the available space to avoid exceeding those limits. Overloading can lead to fines, vehicle damage, or worse—being stopped at the border.
Limited Payload Capacity: Even a standard 3.5-ton van may only allow you to carry around 700 - 800 kg of goods once you factor in the weight of the vehicle, fuel, and passengers.
Additional Costs: Tolls, fuel, ferry or tunnel charges, insurance, and possible one-way fees can add up quickly.
That said, if you’re set on doing the move yourself, here’s some useful information and key rules and regulations to help you avoid common pitfalls and plan the journey smoothly.
92%
Overweight
Most large vans are rated as 3500kg. This is the total weight the vehicle can weigh loaded. Most full or almost full vans are grossly overweight.
It's not just about total weight either. Each axle has a limit. Exceed these and you are putting yourself and other road users at risk!
900kg's
What most large vans can carry!
The average large van weighs in at around 2450 kg's EMPTY.
Add around 70kg's for a tank of fuel and 85g's for an average driver.
This leaves you with a realistic loading weight of 895kg's. That's equivalent to 35 boxes weighing 25kg's each!
€2000
500kg Overweight?
Most authorites will allow 5 to 10% above the vehicles maximum weight. This will likely attact a fine of around €500.
And you will need to reduce the weight before you can continue your journey.
More that 10% overweight. You'd better have deep pockets to pay the fine!
